This is a non-commercial research project that studies the sense of humor in adults. The project uses an app named LUFF to collect the users' ratings of a selected set of jokes and study the aggregate results to make inferences about the nature of humor. The survey runs for 20 days. Every day, a user gets 5 jokes and is asked to rate them. If the rating is "negative", the user is given several "reasons why" to choose from. The survey is fun and takes only a couple of minutes every day. The time commitment for LUFF is very low, everything is 100% free, no traps, no tricks, and quite a few smiles and chuckles - why not try it?
We are hoping for a large and diverse pool of participants, representing all age groups, genders, ethnicities, creeds, etc. etc.

This is our privacy policy.
1. The personal data we collect.
LUFF is a
polling app: it is intended to conduct an anonymous survey for scientific,
non-commercial purposes. For that reason, the only piece of your “personal
information” that we store for the duration of the survey is your “device ID”
that allows us to attribute all your answers to a particular device and,
presumably, to a particular user. In addition, once the survey is completed, you
will have the option of providing your email if you are interested in the
results of the study.
2. The personal data we do NOT collect.
While we may
collect some generic, non-personal demographic information about you (age,
gender, education and such), LUFF will not ask you for any identifying
information: name, address, phone number, etc. LUFF will also never ask for any
payment information: the app is free, and there are no in-app purchases. Basically,
we are not after your personal data.
3. How the data are used.
We will never
share your device ID or email address with any third party, except when
required by law. Also, once the survey is completed, your device ID will be promptly
erased from our database. Your email address, if you choose to provide it, will
be used for the sole purpose of emailing you the results of the study once they
become available.
4. Safeguarding your data.
All the data
that we collect will be stored within a password-protected database with a very
small number of individuals having access to it.
5. Notification of changes.
This privacy
policy has been in effect since November 15, 2019. We do not anticipate any changes to this policy;
however, should they occur during the survey, you will be immediately notified
by LUFF. If you are not happy with the updated policy, you will have the option
of requesting the immediate removal of your personal information from our
database.
